BEST TIME TO VISIT SPITI VALLEY

Best Time to Visit Spiti Valley

 

The best time to be on a road to Spiti valley is the summer when the weather is pleasant 25 degrees during the daytime and quite chilly 3 to 4 degrees during the night. The ideal time is from May to October.  The roads remain closed for almost 6 months due to heavy snowfall.

 

Temperatures are subzero and it is bone-biting cold. Mid-July to August is the time of Monsoons there can be heavy rainfall, so its good to avoid Spiti at this time. September to October when autumn colours of Spiti are blooming with orange leaves on the trees enhancing its beauty to the maximum. However, it's always better to keep a check on the weather updates, especially in October.

Spiti Valley in Summer (March - June)

The best time to visit Spiti is from March to June when the temperatures rarely drop below 15 degrees Celcius. The days are hot but pleasant. It is indeed the best time for trekkers and campers. The month from March to June is also the peak season for those who are travelling to Kaza.

Spiti Valley in Monsoon (July - September)

The monsoon season receives moderate to heavy rainfall in Spiti. However, this is not exactly the best time to visit Spiti, owing to the frequent downpours and dangerous landslides. The condition in Spiti with heavy rainfall and marginal temperature dip is not at all ideal to lead a comfortable life. The roads are usually slippery and without the help of a local - it is not at all easy to lead the way.

Spiti Valley in Winter (October - February)

The winter season starting from October is the least advisable time for a visit to Spiti. With extremely chilly temperature and inhospitable roads, the situation in Spiti becomes extreme. During this season, the roads connecting Spiti Valley to the rest of India are blocked. The Spiti river is more or less frozen up with temperatures going below -20 degrees centigrade.

The perfect time to experience winter in Spiti is the start of October to March. The temperature around this time hovers around an average of 8 degrees Celsius during the daytime, at night the mercury touches -10 degrees when snowfall flourishes at its best.

The least sunshine can be experienced from October to December. The temperature is extremely cold and the condition is cloudy, foggy, with snowfall. However, during December – January, the temperature at night falls even below - 30-degrees Celsius.
