I’m sure every 90’s kid (at least) has heard the thrilling and mysterious Bhangarh fort story, accepted as the most creepy place on the face of the country. Every hostel room has heard countless stories and stimulated multiple plans for a group tour to the mysterious land. Many executed those plans.
But are you actually aware of the Bhangarh Fort story? Stories, actually! There are 2.
And we will reveal both the stories here today. The 2 infamous stories that are unequally distributed amongst the Indian population and ahead.
So get ready. Here’s the dough!
Bhangarh fort story: 2 legends of the Dark Mystery
There are two legends which are out in regards to the history of the city. The city, as we know, is reported to be so haunted that an official notice from the Archaeological Survey of India welcomes every visitor in the town and no one is allowed to remain in the precincts of the fort during the night.
Version 1 says that a Sadhu who went by the name of Baba Balau Nath used to live within the fort area.
It was his injunction that any houses built in the precincts of the fort should not be taller than his own house.
He announced that if the shadow of any such house fell on his house, it would result in the destruction of the entire fort town. And something similar happened as the Mughals invaded and ended every soul on the land in a barbaric fashion.
Version 2 states that N.K. Sinhai, the wizard who was adept in black magic, fell in love with Ratnavati, the princess of Bhangarh, who was absolutely mesmerizing and had suitors to marry her from many royal families of the country.
One day the princess, at 18 years of age, went shopping with her friends and was buying Ittar (scent) in the local market. The wizard saw this and replaced the scent with a love potion in order to ensnare the princess.
He offered the potion to her so that she would take a liking to him and marry him.
However, the princess saw through the wizard’s trickery, and when he offered her the bowl of potion, she threw it onto a big boulder nearby.
As a result, the boulder started rolling down towards the wizard and crushed him. [Oops! That’s weirdly Funny. Ahemm!!]
Before he died, he made a curse that Bhangarh would be doomed soon and no soul would be able to live within its precincts.
Soon enough, Bhangarh Fort was attacked and invaded by the Mughals from the north and the city was surrounded and sacked. Some 10,000 people lived in the city at that time. All the people in the fort, including the princess, were brutally slaughtered.
The present state of the fort is attributed to the curse of the wizard and people believe the ghosts in the fort are those of the princess and the wizard.
Version 2 is a little more popular and well known amongst the masses. Anyway, I was enthralled with both the stories. I liked the first one too.
