It is the design suggested by Edwin Lutyens and about 13,300 servicemen names inscribed on the walls of India Gate. There is a saying that the construction is an inspiration taken from 'Arc de Triomphe', which is in Paris. It is a must-visit destination for every tourist to reminisce the war history of India.
Jantar Mantar is a live example that debates about the extraordinary mindset of the architects of the past. It is one of the oldest monuments in the city, built with a purpose of compiling the astronomy tables and for predicting the movements of sun, moon and planets. Jantar Mantar comprises 13 architectural instruments of astronomy, constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1724. Every architectural instrument present here has some special purpose. It was perfectly working environment up to 1867 but eventually got worn-out.
Qutub Minar is the second tallest minaret in India, which is 73 meters tall with 14.32 meters base diameter and 2.75 meters peak diameter. It is the oldest monument resembling the architecture of Mughal Empire and the entire construction is of marble and red stone. There is a circular staircase comprising 379 steps inside minar, which was accessible to tourists earlier, but later, got closed due to some reason. There are some other old monuments connected to this tourist spot, all together called as 'Qutub Complex'.
Mahatma Gandhi, Father of our Nation spent his last days of life in Delhi. Gandhi Smriti was actually the house of Birla, who was a business tycoon in India at that time. Mahatma Gandhi was a frequent guest at Birla's at that time. He stayed here between September 9, 1947 and January 30, 1948 when he was assassinated. Later, Jawaharlal Nehru requested Birlas to turn it into a Mahatama Gandhi memorial. After much negotiation, Birlas gave in for it and opened the place for tourists on August 15, 1973. It was then renamed as 'Gandhi Smriti'. It has a museum which showcases the life and death of Mahatama Gandhi.
Akshardham, famously known as 'Swami Narayan Akshardham' is one among the largest Hindu Temples designed with exceptional architecture. Entire Akshardham construction used pink stones imported from Rajasthan and Italian Carrara marble stone.
