About Varanasi

Discover the Life of Varanasi - The Spiritual Capital of India

A part of India’s rich history, both culturally and spiritually is Varanasi or Kashi as it is known, and it’s Benares in modern day. Predating most urban settlements in the world along the shores of India’s sacred Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh, the city is of tremendous importance to Hinduism. It also is the home to millions in search of tranquility and a place passionate about loving India’s culture. Varanasi is also a pilgrimage site which brings with it countless tourists every year.

Famous Sites of Varanasi

The rich and ever forward-learning history of Varanasi always kept serving Hinduism and Varanasi’s Civilization at the centre. The temples alongside mesmerizing ancient architecture serve as ghats which allow people to channel their devotion through rituals and prayers to the Ganges. On top of all this Varanasi is also known for housing the Kashi Vishwanath Temple along the twelve Jyotirlingas.

Tourist Attractions

The prime attraction of Varanasi is the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The temple is dedicated to God Shiva. Another one to visit is Dashashwamedh Ghat where tourists can view the grand evening Ganga Aarti which is a devotion show. Moreover, for the holy ganges, the Manikarnika Ghat is said to be one of the oldest and also the most sacred cremation ghats. For the history buffs, the landmarks such as Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Sarnath where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon are also important sites to visit. Other sites such as Assi Ghat and Tulsi Ghat are also quite famous for the scenic views they provide along with the calmness of the area.

Famous Food in Varanasi

Varanasi certainly is one of the few cities that serve exquisite delicacies. Some of the best street foods available here include kachaudi sabzi, lassi, banarasi paan and tamatar chaat, other than this, the city is also popular for the traditional thali it serves such that cafes provide a great combination of local vegetarian dishes along with rabri and jalebi.

Culture and Traditions

Varanasi is a city filled with culture; there is a lot of history and talent when it comes down to classic music, classical dance, and even classical art. There also are major festivals such as Diwali or Maha Shivratri and even closer to Diwali the festival of Dev Deepawali where they celebrate the occasion excessively. This city is also quite famous for the art of Banarasi saree’s weaving and offers a spiritual vibe all around the place.

Best Time to Go

If someone asks me about Varanasi tourism, then I guess the cool and pleasant weather from October to March is the best time to visit this eternal city as it offers amazing sightseeing and riverfront activities.

Things to do

Taking a boat ride on the Ganges River, visiting the ghats for Ganga Aarti, and walking through the narrow lanes with temples and markets are things that need to be done. To make traveling around the city easy and effortless, I suggest that you book a local cab service so you don’t have to navigate the busy streets and crowded hubs by yourself.
